Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes, 67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer. - scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault: slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion list plus a privacy guard. - tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note (capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other pages get a Related Knowledge block. - Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

Aeolian
The plain truth of sadness, told without ornament.
The Mode
Aeolian is the sixth mode of the major scale, starting on its sixth degree — and like Ionian among the bright modes, it is so familiar it has its own everyday name: the natural minor scale. Built on C it borrows from E♭ major, flattening the third, sixth, and seventh against the major scale to produce the archetypal minor sound.
If Ionian is the sound of contentment, Aeolian is the sound of longing and loss. It carries no bright altered tone to soften it the way Dorian’s natural sixth does; it is minor through and through, the reference point against which the other minor modes reveal their particular colours.
Structure
| Attribute | Value |

| Notes (from C) | C D E♭ F G A♭ B♭ |
| Characteristic tone | None — this is the natural minor scale |
| Parent major scale | E♭ major |
Character
Aeolian’s mood is unguarded melancholy. The flattened third darkens the tonic chord, and the lowered sixth and seventh remove any pull toward brightness, so the whole scale settles into a plaintive, introspective gravity. Without a leading tone it lacks the sharp cadential drive of the harmonic minor, which leaves it feeling more resigned than dramatic — sorrow at rest rather than sorrow in crisis. It is the default emotional shorthand for “sad” in Western music.
In Practice
Aeolian is the backbone of minor-key pop, rock, and folk, and of a great deal of film and game music reaching for grief, tension, or resolve. Ballads, laments, and brooding anthems tend to live here. As the natural minor it is one of the two modes — with Ionian — that most listeners internalise without ever naming.
