Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes, 67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer. - scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault: slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion list plus a privacy guard. - tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note (capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other pages get a Related Knowledge block. - Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

Circle of Fifths Progression
Roots falling like water, always downhill toward home.
The Progression
The circle of fifths progression chains chords whose roots descend by perfect fifths, each one leaning into the next the way a dominant leans into its tonic. The classic short form — vi–ii–V–I — is a fragment of this larger wheel, and it can be extended backward through iii and beyond to circle almost the entire diatonic set. Every step is the strongest root motion in tonal harmony, so the whole sequence feels propelled, gravitationally certain of where it is going.
What the ear registers is momentum. Because each chord acts momentarily as a dominant to the one that follows, the progression generates a cascade of small resolutions that only fully settle when it reaches the tonic. Voice-leading falls naturally into place, guide tones sliding by step, which is why this motion sounds equally at home in a Bach chorale and a jazz turnaround.
Structure
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Roman numerals | vi – ii – V – I |
| Example in C | Am – Dm – G – C |
| Chords used | Minor Triad / Minor Seventh (vi, ii), Dominant Seventh (V), Major Triad / Major Seventh (I) |
| Character | Flowing, inevitable, propulsive |
| Function | Descending-fifths motion resolving to tonic |
In Practice
It underpins both jazz and classical harmonic motion — the bridge of "rhythm changes," countless Baroque sequences, and standards like "Autumn Leaves" and "I Will Survive" ride waves of descending fifths. Its final three chords are exactly the ii-V-I, and the Backdoor Progression offers an alternate route to the same tonic destination.
