Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

Half-Diminished Seventh

Sorrow that hasn’t finished falling.

The Chord

The half-diminished seventh is a diminished triad with a minor seventh laid over the top — a minor third, another minor third, then a major third. On C the notes are C, E♭, G♭, B♭. The name captures its in-between nature: it has the flattened fifth of a diminished chord, which makes it unstable, but its seventh is a plain minor seventh rather than the diminished seventh’s further-flattened note. It is diminished halfway, tense but not fully collapsed.

That flattened fifth keeps the chord off balance, while the minor seventh softens the edges into something more wistful than alarming. The result is a harmony that feels wounded and searching, a chord suspended between the darkness of the diminished and the melancholy of the minor.

Structure

Attribute Value
Formula 1 ♭3 ♭5 ♭7
Notes (on C) C E♭ G♭ B♭
Symbol Cm7♭5 (Cø7)
Quality The ii of a minor key — wistful, unstable

Character

The half-diminished seventh is one of the most emotionally specific chords in music — yearning, uncertain, quietly heartbroken. It has none of the diminished seventh’s horror-movie panic; instead it aches. The flattened fifth gives it a hollow, off-kilter sadness that composers reach for when they want longing rather than dread. It is the sound of something almost lost.

In Practice

The half-diminished seventh is the ii chord of every minor key, the pivotal first step of the minor ii–V–i that defines so much of jazz. It sets up the dominant and pulls the ear toward a minor tonic with unmistakable gravity. Beyond jazz it colours film scores and Romantic harmony wherever a scene needs unresolved sorrow. It is the Diminished Triad with a seventh, a shade brighter than the Diminished Seventh.
