Grind to order, never pre-grind. Try to get beans from a place that marks the roast date on the bag. Blue Bottle, Four Barrel and Ritual and my favorite little guy Bicycle Coffee all do this. Flavors bean flavors are at their peak 48 hours after roasting. Proper preparation can make a *huge* difference. Take a prep class at your local roaster. Four Barrel has an amazing one hour course for $10. Invest in a $20 Hario V60, a $20 hand grinder and a $20 scale and you can enjoy the most amazing coffee at home, work or on the road.  If you ever find yourself at SoMA Central in SF stop by ShortForm HQ and see our coffee lab.
