Unrelatedly, I've made a great discovery for those of us who like to use web apps like Google Reader on our home screens. Go to http://fullscreen.me on your iOS device. It lets you save full-screen web apps as standalone home screen apps (not run in Safari). You can also set custom icons, and they've got a few of the Google web app icons in retina-friendly size (yay!). I've got one for Google Reader, one for bit.ly, and one for Favstar.
