Since mobile is changing so fast now, the advantage is to the apps, but on the desktop, which is more mature, most things can be done in HTML5. Working on iPhone apps I see the HUGE difference between the result quality. With HTML5 let's talk about the lack of the look, feel and responsiveness, the build size being HUGE compared to native [remember, the UI must be built out mostly with images [some css] so instead of compiling obj-c to make a UITabBar you need to add in a bunch of images/image states etc. Being already compiling vs. run time compilation is a huge issue when you are working on a processor with far less capacity than a desktop. Basically I feel as if HTML5 is a crutch for those that can't.
