Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Eight of Pentacles
> *Devotion is a hammer that falls the same way ten thousand times.*
---
## Imagery
A craftsman sits at his bench, hammer and chisel in hand, absorbed in carving a pentacle. Five finished coins hang displayed on a post beside him, a sixth is under his tool, and one rests at his feet — the fruits of steady, repeated work. He wears a workman's apron and looks at nothing but the task; the town lies in the distance, its distractions set aside. There is no audience, no flourish. The card is a portrait of pure application, the near-monastic focus of a person who has given themselves entirely to the perfecting of a skill.
## Upright
The Eight of Pentacles is the card of apprenticeship, diligence, and craft — the disciplined repetition through which competence becomes mastery. Where the Three of Pentacles showed skill recognised in collaboration, here the worker is alone with the work itself, refining, correcting, doing the thing again and again until it is true. Drawn upright it blesses dedication, attention to detail, and the quiet dignity of labour done well for its own sake. It counsels commitment to a path of improvement and reminds us that mastery is not a gift but an accumulation of unglamorous hours.
## Reversed
Reversed, the discipline loses its soul. The card can show perfectionism that never lets the work be finished, tedium curdled into joyless drudgery, or effort poured into something that no longer matters. It may mark cut corners and shoddy craft, the opposite failing — or a skill practised so mechanically that its meaning has drained away. Sometimes it points to the worker who has lost the plot, mistaking busyness for progress, or who withholds their gift out of insecurity.
## Correspondence
| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Element** | Earth. Astrological decan: Sun in Virgo. Golden Dawn title: the Lord of Prudence — the Sun's creative vitality focused through Virgo's meticulous, perfecting discipline. |
## Archetype
This is the archetype of the devoted maker, the psyche shaped through disciplined repetition into a vessel fit for its work. Jung understood individuation itself as an opus, a labour requiring the same patient fidelity as any craft; the carver at his bench is the soul at its own bench, refining the raw material of the personality one careful stroke at a time. The repeated pentacles are mandalas practised into being. Here the sacred is found not in ecstasy but in attention — the holiness of doing one honest thing well.
## Mythological Echoes
The image belongs to the divine artisans — Hephaestus lame at his forge shaping wonders, the Japanese notion of the shokunin whose lifelong devotion to a single craft becomes a spiritual path, the Benedictine rule that to labour is to pray. Across cultures the god who makes is honoured, and the myths insist that the perfecting of a skill is a form of worship, the hand's patient discipline a road to the divine.
## In Practice
When this card appears, the work itself is the answer; put in the hours without needing them to be seen. Return to the bench. Journal: what skill or practice is asking for my patient, repeated devotion right now, and where am I refusing the unglamorous middle of mastery?
