Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Four of Cups
> *The gift hovers at the edge of a gaze turned resolutely inward.*
---
## Imagery
A young man sits beneath a tree with his arms folded, legs crossed, contemplating three cups arranged on the grass before him. From a cloud at his side a hand extends a fourth cup — an offer identical to the annunciation of the [Ace of Cups](/knowledge/tarot/minor-arcana/ace-of-cups) — but he does not see it, or refuses to. His posture is one of brooding withdrawal, half sulk and half meditation. The scene is green and quiet, the discontent entirely interior; nothing in the world has failed him except his own attention.
## Upright
The Four of Cups is apathy, satiety, the peculiar melancholy of having enough and feeling nothing. It marks the moment when the familiar cups no longer satisfy and a new one is offered but goes unnoticed. This is emotional withdrawal, boredom, the reevaluation that comes when pleasure has lost its savor. It is not tragedy but a kind of stuckness — the soul turned inward, missing the grace at its elbow because it is too absorbed in its own dissatisfaction to look up.
## Reversed
Inverted, the arms begin to unfold. This can be the end of stagnation, the moment attention finally turns toward the offered cup and accepts it — a renewed openness after retreat. Alternatively it deepens the withdrawal into full apathy or depression, or it names a restless refusal to sit still long enough to hear what the discontent is trying to say. The reversal often marks the hinge between numbness and the willingness to feel again.
## Correspondence
| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Element** | Water. |
| **Decan** | Moon in Cancer — the third decan of Cancer. |
| **Golden Dawn title** | the Lord of Blended Pleasure, sometimes called Luxury. The Moon in her own domicile, feeling turned so far inward it grows heavy and still. |
## Archetype
This is the psyche in dull retreat, the introverted turn that can either sour into stagnation or ripen into genuine reflection. Jung named the descent into the unconscious a necessary phase, but here it has become passive — a brooding without a quest. The offered fourth cup is the Self extending an invitation the ego is too jaded to receive. The work is discernment: to tell the difference between fruitful solitude and mere withdrawal, and to look up in time.
## Mythological Echoes
The figure under the tree recalls the Buddha before enlightenment, seated in contemplation — but also Narcissus, so fixed on his own reflected discontent that he misses the living world. It echoes the acedia the desert monks feared, the noonday demon of spiritual boredom, and every myth of the sleeper who slumbers through the moment of grace. The tree suggests a threshold not yet crossed.
## In Practice
When this card appears, ask what is being offered that you are too listless to notice. Journal on your boredom — not to escape it, but to learn what it is guarding, and whether a hand is quietly extending a fourth cup.
