kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Justice (virtue)
> *Justice is love working at scale — the shape charity takes between strangers.*
---
## Where It Belongs
Justice is the second of the four cardinal virtues, alongside [Prudence](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/prudence), [Fortitude](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/fortitude), and [Temperance](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/temperance-virtue) — the list that begins in Plato's *Republic* and runs through the Stoics into Aquinas. See [Stoicism](/knowledge/philosophy/stoicism), where justice governs everything owed to others. For Plato it was the crowning virtue, and his definition is worth keeping: justice is each part doing its own work — in the city, each class; in the soul, reason, spirit, and appetite each in right relation. Injustice, on this reading, is not first a crime but a disorder: something in the whole usurping a place that is not its own.
## What It Is
The Roman jurists compressed it into a formula the Middle Ages never improved: *justice is the constant and perpetual will to render to each what is due* — *suum cuique*, to each their own. Two words in that formula carry the weight. It is a *will*, a settled disposition rather than an occasional mood of fairness; and it is *constant*, extending to people one dislikes, cases where one loses, and days when no one is watching. Among the cardinal virtues it is the only one aimed wholly outward — prudence perfects one's seeing, fortitude and temperance one's passions, but justice exists entirely in relation, which is why the tradition ranked it highest of the moral virtues.
## Its Opposite
Justice has no single deadly sin as its opposite — injustice is rather the *social form of every sin*: [Greed](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/seven-deadly-sins/greed) takes what is another's due, [Envy](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/seven-deadly-sins/envy) resents it, [Wrath](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/seven-deadly-sins/wrath) seizes the judge's bench, [Pride](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/seven-deadly-sins/pride) exempts the self from the law it applies to others. That breadth is the point. Where the remedial virtues each answer one passion, justice answers the sum of their damage.
## The Tarot Echo
The vault's [Justice](/knowledge/tarot/major-arcana/justice) card carries the virtue into the Major Arcana — the crowned figure with sword and scales, weighing exactly, cutting cleanly. Card and virtue agree on the essentials: measure before the blade, and no thumb on the scale.
