kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Ionian
> *The white light before the prism — everything else is a colour split from here.*

## The Mode
Ionian is the first mode of the major scale, which is to say it simply is the major scale. Start on the first degree, walk the pattern of whole and half steps that everyone learns as “do re mi,” and you have arrived at the most familiar sound in Western music. Every other diatonic mode is a rotation of this same collection of notes; Ionian is where the counting begins.
Because it carries no altered tones against the major scale, Ionian feels resolved, stable, and at home. It is the sound of arrival rather than departure — the tonal centre the ear treats as neutral ground, the reference against which the darkness of Phrygian or the shimmer of Lydian gets measured.
## Structure
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Interval formula | W W H W W W H |
| Notes (from C) | C D E F G A B |
| Characteristic tone | None — this is the major scale itself |
| Parent major scale | C major |
## Character
Ionian’s mood is brightness without tension. With a major third giving it warmth and a leading tone pulling firmly toward the root, nothing in the scale fights the tonic; every note either belongs to the home chord or leans back into it. That absence of friction is precisely its character — clarity, resolution, a kind of unshadowed daylight. It is the baseline of consonance, the reason a plain major chord sounds like a full stop.
## In Practice
Ionian is the default of nearly all pop, folk, hymnody, and classical tonality — anything that sounds straightforwardly “happy” or grounded is likely leaning on it. Nursery rhymes, national anthems, and the vast majority of chart music live here. In pytheory it is the reference scale from which the other modes are derived by rotation.
