kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Phoebe
**Domain**: Prophecy; the oracle at Delphi; bright lunar radiance
**Symbol**: The laurel and the tripod, the golden crown, the shining moon
**Roman Equivalent**: Phoebe
---
## Overview
Phoebe is the Titaness of prophecy and of bright, clear radiance — her name means "the shining" or "the bright," and she is associated with the pure light of the moon and with the gift of oracular sight. Daughter of [Gaia](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/gaia) and [Uranus](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/uranus), she held, in the oldest tradition, the great oracle at Delphi before it ever belonged to [Apollo](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/apollo): the prophetic seat passed from [Gaia](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/gaia) to her daughter Themis and then to Phoebe, and only afterward to the Olympian god. She is thus the elder oracular power, the bright Titaness who spoke the future from the navel of the earth in the ages before the sun-god came.
She married her brother [Coeus](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/coeus), the Titan of the inquiring intellect and the axis of heaven, and the pairing is a fitting one — the questioning mind wedded to the answering oracle. Through her daughter [Leto](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/leto) she became grandmother to [Apollo](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/apollo) and [Artemis](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/artemis), and it is said that Apollo received Delphi as a birthday gift from her, the oracle descending through the women of the Titan line into the hand of the god who bears her bright name in his epithet Phoebus. Phoebe herself is gentle and luminous, a giver of prophecy who passed her seat on freely rather than defending it by force.

## Key Myths
**The oracle before Apollo.** In Aeschylus's telling, the oracle at Delphi passed peacefully through a line of goddesses: first [Gaia](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/gaia), then Themis, then Phoebe, and only then to [Apollo](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/apollo), who received it as a gift on the day of his birth. Phoebe is the third holder of the prophetic seat and the one who bestows it on her grandson — the bright Titaness through whom the oracle crossed from the old order into the new without a single act of violence.
**Grandmother of the twin gods.** By [Coeus](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/coeus), Phoebe bore [Leto](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/leto) and Asteria. Through Leto she became grandmother to [Apollo](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/apollo) and [Artemis](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/artemis), the archer twins of [Zeus](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/zeus). Apollo's epithet Phoebus — "the bright" — is her name descended into his, so that the sun-god of prophecy carries his Titan grandmother's radiance in his very title. The bright and oracular gifts run in her blood from Delphi down to Delos.
**The shining and the moon.** As "the bright one," Phoebe gathered lunar associations, standing among the older goddesses of the moon's clear light before those powers narrowed toward [Selene](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/selene) and [Artemis](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/artemis). Her brightness is both literal and prophetic — the clear light by which things to come are seen, the shining that is also foresight.
