Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes, 67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer. - scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault: slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion list plus a privacy guard. - tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note (capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other pages get a Related Knowledge block. - Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

## Overview
Earned security is attachment research's most hopeful finding: some adults describe genuinely difficult childhoods — rejection, inconsistency, loss, worse — and yet present as fully secure. The category emerged from Mary Main's Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), which classifies adults not by what happened to them but by *how they tell it*. Secure-autonomous speakers produce coherent narratives: specific memories that support their generalizations, feeling acknowledged without flooding the telling, a story with perspective and proportion. Most secure adults have benign histories to narrate. The "earned-secure" — the term comes from Pearson, Cohn, and the Cowans' 1994 work — have hard ones, and narrate them coherently anyway. They have done, somewhere and somehow, the work of digesting their own history.

## The Finding That Matters
The AAI's most consequential result is intergenerational: a parent's attachment classification predicts their infant's [Strange Situation](/knowledge/psychology/attachment-theory/strange-situation) classification with striking reliability — and for earned-secure parents, it is the *coherence*, not the childhood, that carries the prediction. An adult with a painful past and a coherent narrative about it tends to raise a secure child; an adult with an unprocessed past tends to transmit it, however fiercely they intend otherwise. What breaks the chain of Trauma across generations is not having been well-parented. It is having *metabolized* not having been. Fonagy's work on reflective functioning names the active ingredient — the capacity to hold one's own history, and one's parents' minds, in view: to say not only *what* happened but to think about the people it happened between. The [working model](/knowledge/psychology/attachment-theory/internal-working-models) gets revised not by better luck but by better narration; the [disorganized](/knowledge/psychology/attachment-theory/disorganized-attachment) pattern's unresolved lapses are, on this reading, exactly the places where narration has not yet reached.

## Coherence as Practice
How is security earned? The literature points to revising relationships — therapy, a secure partner, any bond that responds off-script long enough to disconfirm the model — and to reflection: the deliberate work of turning a lived past into a told one. Witnessing, wording, ordering, connecting. It is worth noticing, without prescribing anything, that this describes a practice this vault already embodies. A documented inner world, histories written down so they cannot be lost or distorted, hard material given structure and connection rather than left as weather — that is coherence work in the AAI's precise sense, kin to what [Internal Family Systems](/knowledge/psychology/internal-family-systems) does in session and what Integration names as cooperation rather than erasure. Whether any given practice earns any given security is not for a note to say. But the research is clear about the direction: the past does not have to change, because it cannot. The telling can, and the telling is what transmits.
