Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes, 67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer. - scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault: slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion list plus a privacy guard. - tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note (capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other pages get a Related Knowledge block. - Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Eight of Cups

## Imagery
Under a moon that shows both its dark and lit faces, a cloaked figure leans on a staff and turns away, climbing toward a range of barren mountains. Behind him he leaves eight cups stacked in a careful arrangement — not spilled, not broken, simply abandoned. There is a gap in the top row, one cup’s worth of absence that seems to have prompted the departure. The water in the foreground and the desolate heights ahead mark a threshold between the emotional life he is leaving and the unknown he walks toward alone.
## Upright
The Eight of Cups is the departure — the decision to leave behind what is complete but no longer nourishing. Everything here is intact; that is precisely the point. The figure walks away not from failure but from a fullness that has ceased to satisfy the soul. This is the call to something deeper, the willingness to disappoint expectations in order to seek meaning, the courage to abandon a good-enough life for a truer one. It is grief and liberation braided together.
## Reversed
Inverted, the departure stalls or misfires. This can be the fear of leaving, staying too long in a situation one has outgrown, circling the same cups unable to walk away. Alternatively it marks aimless flight — leaving one thing after another without ever arriving, drifting rather than journeying. The reversal asks whether you are avoiding a necessary departure, or fleeing so habitually that you never let anything become real enough to leave.

## Archetype
This is the night sea journey, Jung’s image of the descent that begins when the ego leaves the lit shore of the known. The stacked cups are the persona and its achievements, adequate to the world but empty to the Self. To walk toward the barren mountains under a divided moon is to answer the call of [Individuation](/knowledge/psychology/jungian/individuation) — to trade collective approval for the solitary and necessary quest. Something in the psyche insists on more than contentment.

## Mythological Echoes
The lone figure recalls the Buddha leaving his palace, walking out on comfort and family in search of what comfort could not give. It echoes Abraham departing his homeland at a voice’s command, the hero who forsakes the ordinary world at the threshold of the myth, and every pilgrim who sets out toward a country not yet seen. The divided moon is the ancient sign of a passage between worlds.

## In Practice
When this card appears, ask what is complete in your life yet quietly empty. Journal on what you would have to leave to walk toward what actually calls you.
