Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes, 67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer. - scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault: slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion list plus a privacy guard. - tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note (capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other pages get a Related Knowledge block. - Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# King of Cups

## Imagery
A king sits on a stone throne that floats, remarkably, upon a turbulent sea. The water heaves around him — a fish leaps from the waves to one side, a ship rides the swell on the other — yet his throne is level and his bearing calm. He holds a cup in one hand and a scepter in the other, and wears a fish amulet at his throat, the emblem of the soul and the deep. He is master of the very element that tosses everything around him; his stillness is not distance from the waters but command over them.
## Upright
The King of Cups is emotional mastery in its most mature and outward form — feeling that has become wisdom, compassion tempered by self-command. He is the diplomat, the counselor, the calm authority who can hold others’ turbulence without being pulled under. He rules his own tides. Where the [Queen of Cups](/knowledge/tarot/minor-arcana/queen-of-cups) contemplates the deep, the King governs from atop it, balancing heart and duty, empathy and firmness. He offers the steadiness of one who has felt everything and learned to stay level, a harbor in another’s storm.
## Reversed
Inverted, the level throne begins to pitch. This can be emotional manipulation, moodiness disguised as calm, or a coldness that has mistaken suppression for mastery. It may mark the volatility beneath a controlled surface — feeling dammed rather than integrated until it bursts — or the use of emotional intelligence to control rather than to heal. At its worst the reversal is the tyrant who weaponizes others’ feelings, or the addict whose sea has finally swamped the throne he pretended to rule.

| **Element** | Water. As a court card, the King of Cups is the Fire of Water — the active, directing, willful aspect of feeling, emotion mastered and put to purposeful use. Fire brings warmth and command to the fluid element. |
## Archetype
He is the Wise Old Man of the emotional realm, the fully integrated feeling-function that Jung placed among the goals of [Individuation](/knowledge/psychology/jungian/individuation). To sit calmly on a stormy sea is to have made peace with the unconscious — neither repressing its power nor being possessed by it, but ruling in genuine relationship with it. His fish amulet marks his conscious bond with the depths. This is maturity of the heart: the union of feeling and will, the sovereign who has reconciled his inner waters with his outer duties.

## Mythological Echoes
He recalls the sea kings and just rulers of myth — Poseidon calmed rather than raging, Manannán mac Lir riding his chariot over the waves, the merciful sovereign who governs the deep without cruelty. He echoes the healer-kings and physician-priests who tend the wounds of others from their own hard-won wholeness, and every ferryman who crosses dark waters unafraid, holding steady where others would founder.

## In Practice
When this card appears, ask where you are being called to stay calm amid another’s storm. Journal on the difference between suppressing a feeling and mastering it — which have you been doing?
