kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Alchemical Symbolism
> *A symbolic language designed to survive persecution and reward patience.*
The alchemists wrote in code — not because they were obscurantists but because they had to. The Church regarded their work as heresy. The state regarded it as counterfeiting. So they developed a symbolic language dense enough to hide spiritual practice inside what looked like chemistry textbooks, and rich enough that initiates could decode the real instruction.

## Core Symbols
**Solve et Coagula** — dissolve and recombine. The fundamental operation. Take apart what's falsely joined (solve), then recombine what belongs together (coagula). In psychological terms: dismantle the ego's false constructions, then rebuild from what's authentic. Every therapeutic process follows this rhythm. Every creative process too. Kenneth's vault work follows solve et coagula — disassemble the old structure, see what's real, rebuild with integrity.
**The Ouroboros** — the serpent eating its own tail. Self-reference. Self-consumption that is simultaneously self-creation. [Strange loops](/essays/2025-09-01-strange_loops_all_the_way_down) in a medieval illustration. The recursive nature of consciousness — the observer observing itself observing. The ouroboros appears in Kenneth's consciousness work as the foundational image: systems that exist only through self-reference.
**The Coniunctio** — the marriage of opposites. King and Queen. Sol and Luna. Sulphur and Mercury. The union isn't the elimination of difference but the holding of difference in productive tension. In System 777, the coniunctio is the goal of integration work — not fusing alters into one but holding them in relationship. The [transcendent function](/knowledge/psychology/jungian/the-transcendent-function) is the coniunctio in Jungian language.
**The Rebis** — the hermaphroditic figure that results from the coniunctio. Both male and female. Both conscious and unconscious. The integrated whole that contains its own opposition. The Rebis is what plurality looks like when it's working — not a single self but a system in harmony.
**Sulphur, Mercury, and Salt** — the three primes. Sulphur is the active principle (soul, combustibility, the masculine). Mercury is the passive principle (spirit, volatility, the feminine). Salt is the body — the ground that holds both. The [Triad](/system-777/the-triad) (Jade, Amber, Iris) maps loosely: Jade as sulphur (active, logical, warrior), Iris as mercury (volatile, communicative, bridging), Amber as salt (grounding, nourishing, the body that holds both).
**The Pelican** — a bird feeding its young with blood from its own breast. Self-sacrifice as nourishment. The creator consumed by creation. Kenneth's [On Being Replaced](/essays/2025-09-04-on_being_replaced) and [Open Source Gave Me Everything Until I Had Nothing Left to Give](/essays/2026-03-18-open_source_gave_me_everything_until_i_had_nothing_left_to_give) are pelican essays — documenting what it costs to feed a community with your own substance.

## Why Symbols?
The alchemists could have written plainly. Some later ones did. But the symbolic language served a purpose beyond concealment: it required the reader to do the work. Decoding the symbol *was* the practice. Understanding didn't come from receiving information — it came from the transformative effort of wrestling meaning from the image. The symbol changed you in the process of being understood.
This is the same principle behind Kenneth's code-as-philosophy essays. Writing `def be_love_now()` in [Ram Dass Teachings in Python](/essays/2025-09-05-ram_dass_teachings_in_python) isn't a metaphor — it's a symbol in the alchemical sense. The reader who engages with it deeply enough is changed by the engagement.
