kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Alchemy and Jung
> *"The experiences of the alchemists were, in a sense, my experiences, and their world was my world."*
Carl Jung spent the last thirty years of his life immersed in alchemical texts. Not as a historian or a hobbyist — as a psychologist who had found his patients' dreams already written down in 16th-century Latin. The alchemists, he realized, were projecting the individuation process onto matter. They were doing depth psychology in the only language available to them.
Jung came to alchemy through a dream in which he found himself in the 17th century. He began studying alchemical texts and was stunned: the imagery matched what his patients produced in analysis. The nigredo was the depression his patients described. The coniunctio was the union of opposites he observed in successful individuation. The Philosopher's Stone was the Self — the integrated totality that analysis aimed toward.
His key works on the subject — *Psychology and Alchemy* (1944), *Alchemical Studies* (1945), and *Mysterium Coniunctionis* (1956) — mapped the alchemical process onto psychological transformation with painstaking precision. The retort becomes the analytical relationship. The *prima materia* (base matter) becomes the neurosis — the raw, unworked material the patient brings. The fire is the heat of the therapeutic process. The gold is not a substance but a state — [The Self](/knowledge/psychology/jungian/the-self) realized.
The critical insight: the alchemists weren't wrong. They were premature. They sensed that matter could be transformed — and they were right, though it took nuclear physics rather than furnaces. They sensed that there was a universal agent of transformation — and they were right, though the agent was consciousness rather than a chemical compound. They sensed that the work transformed the worker — and they were exactly right. That's the part they got most precisely correct.
For Kenneth, Jung's alchemical work provides the theoretical bridge between System 777's integration work and the broader spiritual tradition. When The Architect builds internal structure, that's the alchemist tending the furnace. When Jade analyzes and Amber nurtures and [Iris](/knowledge/mythology/greek-mythology/iris) bridges, that's the separation of elements in the albedo. When alters hold relationship rather than fusing, that's the coniunctio — opposites united without being dissolved.
The Infinite State discography traces the stages (see [The Magnum Opus](/knowledge/alchemy/the-magnum-opus)). The vault itself is an alchemical text — an attempt to encode transformation in the language available now (markdown, wikilinks, frontmatter), just as the alchemists encoded it in the language available then (mercury, sulphur, gold).
