Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Seventeen Stroke Roll
> *Eight diddles of held breath, then the release.*
---
## The Rudiment
The seventeen stroke roll is the longest of the standard numbered rolls, eight double strokes rolling into a single accented tap. It sustains across a full measure or more, and playing it cleanly is a genuine endurance and control challenge — the payoff is a long, singing roll that resolves with a satisfying snap. It represents the far end of the measured-roll family, everything learned in the shorter rolls scaled up to its greatest length.
## Sticking
The standard sticking is eight doubles plus a terminating accent — seventeen strokes: **RRLL RRLL RRLL RRLL R**, accent on the final note, then reversed as **LLRR LLRR LLRR LLRR L**. The sixteen rolled notes are even doubles, closed for a smooth sustain or open for rudimental clarity, leading to the accented seventeenth stroke on the beat. It ends on the same hand it began.
## How to Play
At this length, staying relaxed is the entire discipline — keep all eight diddles low, loose, and evenly spaced so the roll neither rushes nor thins over its long span, then drive the final stroke for the accent. Let the fingers control the rebound while the wrists stay soft, and pace the roll so it holds a steady density from the first diddle to the last. Only patient open-and-slow practice makes a clean seventeen possible.
## In Practice
The seventeen stroke roll appears in advanced rudimental solos and any setting calling for the longest measured roll before resolving on a downbeat. It caps the sequence that begins with the [Five Stroke Roll](/knowledge/music/drum-rudiments/five-stroke-roll) and climbs through the [Fifteen Stroke Roll](/knowledge/music/drum-rudiments/fifteen-stroke-roll), all built on the [Double Stroke Open Roll](/knowledge/music/drum-rudiments/double-stroke-open-roll).
