kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# Faith
> *Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.*

## Where It Belongs
Faith is the first of the three theological virtues, standing with [Hope](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/hope) and [Charity](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/charity) on the list Paul closes 1 Corinthians 13 with: "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three." The tradition drew a hard line between this list and the other two. The cardinal virtues can be acquired — practice prudence and you become prudent. The theological virtues, Aquinas taught, are *infused*: given rather than built, because their object exceeds what human effort can reach. They aim the soul at God directly, where the cardinal virtues aim it at a well-lived earthly life.
## What It Is
The Greek is *pistis* — trust, fidelity, the placing of confidence in a person. That origin corrects the modern shrinkage of faith into "belief without evidence," as if it were a defective form of knowing. Faith in the tradition is not primarily propositional; it is *fiducial* — the trust one extends to someone, not the odds one assigns to something. Hebrews 11 defines it as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen," and then illustrates with a chapter of people who *acted* — faith known by what it does, walking where sight does not reach. Its classical opposites are unbelief and, more subtly, the refusal to trust anything one cannot control — which makes faith a close cousin of [Humility](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/humility), and its absence a quiet form of [Pride](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/seven-deadly-sins/pride).
## Among the Three
Aquinas gave the three an order: faith comes first because trust is the ground — [Hope](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/hope) cannot expect what faith has not first affirmed, and [Charity](/knowledge/virtues-and-vices/virtues/charity) cannot love what it does not trust. But faith is also, of the three, the most provisional: Paul says it will retire into sight. It is scaffolding — indispensable, and destined to come down. The Galatians harvest includes it among the fruits — see Fruits of the Spirit.
