Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

> *The angel pours nothing away; she only teaches the two waters to become one.*

## Imagery
A winged angel stands with one foot on dry land and one in a pool, pouring liquid between two golden cups in a stream that seems to defy gravity, flowing sideways and upward as easily as down. On the angel’s breast is a square containing a triangle; on the brow shines a solar disc. Behind, a path winds up to a range of mountains where a golden crown glows between two peaks. Irises bloom at the water’s edge. Everything about the scene is balance, mingling, and unhurried flow — the patient alchemy of blending opposites into a third thing that is neither.
## Upright
Temperance is balance, integration, and the slow art of the middle way. Arriving after the great ending of [Death](/knowledge/tarot/major-arcana/death), it is the healing and recombination that follows dissolution — the tempering of raw elements into a workable whole. Upright, the card counsels moderation, patience, and the blending of extremes into harmony. The impossible sideways stream is the sign of a synthesis achieved by grace rather than force. To draw it is to be asked to mix carefully, to hold the middle, and to let the two waters find their proportion in their own time.
## Reversed
Reversed, the flow spills or clashes. The card can mean imbalance, excess, or the impatience that refuses the slow work of integration. Inverted, it may reveal a life of extremes — feast and famine, all or nothing — or the friction of elements that will not blend because something in the mix insists on dominating. It asks where you have lost your measure, and what needs re-tempering.
## Correspondence
| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Sign** | Sagittarius, mutable fire, the arrow aimed at the far horizon. |
| **Hebrew letter** | Samekh: ס, the prop or support that holds a structure upright. |
| **Tree of Life path** | Path 25, joining Tiphareth to Yesod, beauty to foundation. |
## Archetype
Temperance is the reconciling third, the archetype of the transcendent function by which the psyche resolves opposition — not by choosing one side but by generating a new element that contains both. Jung placed this creative synthesis at the heart of [Individuation](/knowledge/psychology/jungian/individuation): the tension of opposites, held long enough without collapse, gives birth to a symbol that unites them. The angel’s two cups are those opposites; the flowing stream is the third thing that reconciles them. It is the alchemist’s patient work of the soul, and belongs to [Alchemy](/knowledge/alchemy) as much as to the tarot.
## Mythological Echoes
She echoes the divine cupbearers — Ganymede and Hebe pouring the wine of the gods; Iris the rainbow, messenger between heaven and earth, whose flowers bloom at the angel’s feet. She recalls the alchemical marriage in which sun and moon, sulphur and mercury, are wed to make the philosopher’s stone. Every tradition of the middle way, of moderation as a spiritual discipline, keeps this angel at the confluence of its waters.
## In Practice
When Temperance appears, the reading turns toward balance, healing, and patient synthesis. Journalling prompt: what two extremes in your life are asking to be blended rather than chosen between? Where would a little more moderation, or a little more patience, let a new possibility flow?
