kennethreitz ce93f429a2 Add Knowledge: the vault's reference shelf, crosslinked across the site
Publish the Obsidian vault's Knowledge folder as /knowledge (881 notes,
67 folders), with a Knowledge item in the nav and footer.

- scripts/import_knowledge.py regenerates data/knowledge from the vault:
slugged paths, folder notes as index pages, wikilinks resolved to site
links (or plain text), callouts, highlights, and Dataview tables
rendered statically. Personal notes are withheld via an exclusion
  list plus a privacy guard.
- tuftecms/core/knowledge.py builds a concept index from note titles and
aliases. First mentions on ordinary pages link to their Knowledge note
(capped, never in headings, code, links, or sidenotes); Knowledge pages
list related notes and where they're mentioned across the site; other
pages get a Related Knowledge block.
- Knowledge URLs join sitemap.xml (so the sweep test covers them), never
displace existing legacy slugs, list alphabetically, and mermaid
diagrams render client-side only on pages that have them.

# The Hierophant · V
> *The path is old because it works; the danger is forgetting it was once new.*

## Imagery
A robed priest sits between two grey pillars, crowned with the triple tiara and raising one hand in blessing, two fingers up and two folded — the sign that mediates between heaven and earth. In the other hand he holds a triple cross, the papal sceptre. Two crossed keys lie at his feet, and before him kneel two tonsured acolytes receiving instruction. Everything is formal, hierarchical, ordered by rite. Where the Emperor rules the outer kingdom, the Hierophant governs the inner one — the keeper of tradition, doctrine, and the sanctioned road between the human and the divine.
## Upright
The Hierophant is the transmission of received wisdom — religion, tradition, mentorship, the tested structures through which meaning is passed down. Upright, he counsels study within an established form, initiation into a lineage, or the counsel of a teacher who has walked the road before. Where the [The High Priestess](/knowledge/tarot/major-arcana/the-high-priestess) holds the mystery in silence, the Hierophant translates it into doctrine that a community can share. To draw him is to be asked what tradition you belong to, and whether it still nourishes you.
## Reversed
Reversed, tradition hardens into dogma or is thrown off entirely. The shadow Hierophant is the institution that has forgotten its own source — hollow ritual, spiritual authoritarianism, the letter that has killed the spirit. Inverted he can also mean the necessary rebel: the one who leaves the church, questions the orthodoxy, and seeks a personal path where the inherited one no longer rings true.
## Correspondence
| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Sign** | Taurus, fixed earth, the patient bull that holds its ground. |
| **Hebrew letter** | Vav: ו, the nail or hook that joins one thing to another. |
| **Tree of Life path** | Path 16, joining Chokmah to Chesed, wisdom to mercy. |
## Archetype
The Hierophant is the Wise Old Man in his institutional robe — the archetype of the teacher, but bound to a lineage rather than wandering alone as [The Hermit](/knowledge/tarot/major-arcana/the-hermit) does. He represents the psyche’s inherited structures of meaning, the collective forms through which the sacred has been handed down. In individuation he is both scaffold and cage: necessary for the beginner, who needs a form to grow within, and something the maturing self must eventually internalise rather than merely obey.
## Mythological Echoes
He is the pontifex, the bridge-builder between worlds; the Delphic and Eleusinian hierophants who guarded the mysteries; the Brahmin priest, the Zen patriarch handing down transmission outside the scriptures. Every tradition that says wisdom must be passed through a living chain, teacher to student, keeps a Hierophant at its centre. The two keys are Peter’s, binding and loosing, opening and closing the door of heaven.
## In Practice
When the Hierophant appears, the reading turns toward tradition, teaching, and belonging. Journalling prompt: what inherited structure — of faith, of craft, of family — still holds you up, and which one do you now need to outgrow? Where do you need a teacher, and where must you become your own?
